A renovation was performed by RENU Contracting Restoration at Long Beach High School to transition from ganged bathrooms to single-user facilities as a strategic response to multifaceted concerns.
The renovation encompassed the demolition of outdated, traditional bathrooms spanning approximately 1200 sq ft on two floors. The transformation involved converting each floor into eight gender-neutral stalls, requiring a comprehensive overhaul of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems, as well as framing new walls. The meticulous process extended to encompass new tile installations, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and millwork. Notably, each floor features two handicap-accessible stalls, reflecting a commitment to universal accessibility.
Switching to single-user facilities offers several advantages over traditional ganged bathrooms in educational settings like enhancing safety and security. Single-user restrooms can contribute to a safer environment by minimizing instances of bullying and vandalism. Long Beach opted for a distinctive feature, controlled access through card readers, adding an extra layer of security. This security measure not only addresses concerns related to unauthorized access but also serves the purpose of tracking and monitoring restroom usage. By providing insights into the time and frequency of stall usage, this system enhances overall security and accountability within the school environment.
