If 2020 wasn’t challenging enough, our hurricane season started early this year. Long Islanders were cautiously creating a new normal as the summer months were upon us. Some still skittish to engage in pre-pandemic activities while others were attempting to find some pleasure in venturing out to experience the summer. It seemed as we were hitting a stride of relative consistency, Hurricane Isaias barreled up the Caribbean and headed for the East Coast eventually striking Long Island with Tropical Storm winds. Isaias left more than 400,000 homes and businesses without power and left many roads blocked with downed trees. The storm whipped through the area in record time leaving behind extensive damage that would take weeks to recover from.
RENU Contracting Restoration remained vigilant as we prepared for this quick blast. With our mobile app in place, we were able to be reached by many customers whose phones were out. As the storm was exiting notifications were coming in fast and RENU was able to dispatch their crews to multiple locations at once.
One of the emergency calls received was a warehouse in Brentwood where a wall had collapsed due to the heavy sustaining winds. Within minutes they were on scene assessing, clearing and repairing. Their crew installed temporary walls to ensure the warehouse was safe and functional so business operations could continue while further restoration was being done.
RENU spent weeks repairing facili7ties largely from the wind damage of Isaias. Roofs were a major casualty of this devastation as wind ripped sections right off, leaving them vulnerable and exposed. The combination of the speed of Isaias with the slower workings of businesses due to the pandemic left some facilities exposed to further destruction when initial storm damage had gone undetected until days later when rain came through the area leaving considerable water damage.
RENU was on scene remediating and restoring much of the major commercial building damage across Long Island resulting from Hurricane Isaias making sure that businesses that were already struggling could remain open.
