When unexpected damage impacts a facility, the priority is clear. Act quickly, work thoughtfully, and restore the environment with care and precision.
That was exactly the approach taken on a recent large scale restoration project in Westchester County. Beginning as an emergency response, our team was mobilized quickly following a sprinkler line failure in an upper section of the building. Over the course of several hours, water migrated throughout multiple levels, impacting classrooms, corridors, and athletic spaces.
Upon arrival, the focus was immediate stabilization. Significant water accumulation had reached lower levels of the building, including the gymnasium, and a full assessment confirmed widespread impact across several floors. To ensure safety and proper restoration, a full wing of the building was secured and taken offline while work was underway.
From there, the project evolved into a comprehensive restoration effort, encompassing both mitigation and full reconstruction. Damaged materials were carefully removed, including saturated plaster finishes and compromised wall assemblies. Structural components such as framing, and sections of subflooring were evaluated and replaced where necessary to ensure long term integrity.
A detailed contents management process was also implemented. Items within each affected space were inventoried, with materials either carefully cleaned and restored or responsibly discarded when beyond recovery. At the same time, a large-scale drying operation was deployed, utilizing specialized equipment to bring the structure back to appropriate moisture levels and prevent secondary damage.
With a project of this scale, approaching a multi-million dollar scope, coordination and oversight were critical. Our team managed every phase from initial response through reconstruction, maintaining strict adherence to New York State codes and industry recognized restoration standards. Through disciplined project management and consistent communication, progress remained steady and controlled.
The scope ultimately included full restoration of multiple learning spaces and a complete rebuild of the gymnasium, all delivered with a focus on quality, safety, and long-term performance.
What matters most in projects like this is not just the work itself. It is the outcome. Safe, functional spaces restored with care, allowing occupants to return with confidence.
At RENU, we understand that restoration is about more than repairing a building. It is about helping communities move forward.
